This decal set is intended to letter the Colorado and Southern's 30' box cars (Inherited, Type or Phase I, Type or Phase II, and Type or Phase III) in the Block Lettering paint scheme. The Block Lettering paint scheme began to be applied to C&S rolling stock in early 1907, as a standard, system wide paint scheme. As opposed to the the later, "Button Herald" paint scheme, this paint scheme was fairly uniformly applied to all of their cars. Although some cars were never relettered, most of the cars remaining began to be repainted in the Button Herald paint scheme beginning in the 1920's. While this paint scheme was originally applied following contemporary ARA standard practices, the C&S seldom repainted their equipment consistently, resulting in a wide variation in this paint scheme by the end of service. This set will cover most variations.

This decal set will letter one Rio Grande Southern 30' Stock Car in the Phase 1, 2 or 3 styles used by the RGS for cars aquired in 1937 from the C&S by Victor Miller, who was at that time in charge of receivership for the RGS.

This decal set is intended to cover all the variations of the Button Herald paint scheme applied to the C&S's 30' composite frame refrigerator cars. The Button Herald paint scheme began to be applied to the C&S's rolling stock around 1920, with most cars getting repainted in the late 1920's.

This decal set also covers the lettering for the RGS's 30' composite frame refrigerator car #2101. While there is no photographic evidence that the other two cars the RGS acquired from the C&S were ever painted and used as refrigerators, we have included extra numbers for "2102" and "2103," should such evidence ever appear.
